Peacock: Peck

Meet the Peck the Peacock

Peacocks were developed in Southern Asia and Malaysia as source of food and pets. The Phoenicians brought peacocks to Egypt more than three thousand years ago. The Romans raised peacocks for meat consumption as well as for pets. The peacock was also a popular meat and pet in medieval Europe. After the discovery of the New World, turkeys were imported from Mexico to Europe and rapidly replaced the peacock as a popular meat dish. Today peacocks are rarely used as a source of meat but are very popular in ornamental uses.
