Rhode Island Red Chickens

Rhode Island Red breed developed in the New England states of Massachusetts
and Rhode Island. Early flocks of "reds" often had a single and rose
combed individuals because of breeding with Malay chickens. It was
from the Malay chicken that the Rhode Island Red developed its deep
color, strong constitution and hard relatively feathers.
Rhode Island Reds are a good choice for small flock owners. A hardy chicken, they are the best egg layers among chicken breeds. "Reds" can withstand marginal diets and poor housing conditions better than and other breeds and still continue to produce eggs.
